Titu Maiorescu Socec Publishing House issues Poesii (Poems) by Mihai Eminescu The family's small church 1909
July, 1. In Convorbiri literare, Doina, reproduced, between July - August, by several publications of the time. All editorial offices in Bucharest express their regret for the misfortune having struck their colleague.
July, 29. Familia publishes the poem Ce e amorul. • August, 1. Convorbiri literare reproduces the poem Luceafărul in the variant published in Almanahul Societatii „România Jună” • August. Accompanied by Matei, old Eminovici arrives in Bucharest to have news on the poet's condition; unable to take upon himself the charge of looking after and treating his son, Eminovici leaves this to Titu Maiorescu. • September. Maiorescu asks to the members of Junimea financial contributions for getting the poet admitted in a health establishment in Vienna. • September - November. Familia publishes Pe lîngă plopii fără sot and Si dacă.... October, 14. At Ateneul Român (The Romanian Athenaeum), Vasile Alecsandri reads his play Fântâna Blanduziei (Blanduzia's Draw Well), in view of collecting financial funds for Eminescu. • October, 20. Accompanied by Chibici-Râvneanu, Eminescu leaves for Vienna, where he'll be hospitalized in Dr. Leidesdorf's institute of Döbling (in the vicinity of Vienna). • December, 22. Socec Publishing House issues Poesii (Poems) by Mihai Eminescu, a volume edited and introduced by Titu Maiorescu. Among the 61 poems, 26 novel ones are included in the volume. Out of the 11 editions of the volume, 2 will come out during the poet's life (in 1885 and 1888), the others (1889, 1890, 1892, 1895, 1901, 1903, 1909, 1913) after his death. Unlike the variant published in Almanahul „României June”, in Maiorescu's edition, the poem Luceafărul is issued in a shortened form - 94 stanzas. • 1884. Bogdan Petriceicu-Hasdeu is entrusted to resuming the work to Dictionarul Academiei (The Dictionary of the Academy). • Mite Kremnitz translates into German some of Eminescu's poems: Melancolie (Melancholy), O, Mamă... (O, Mother, my sweet Mother...), O, rămâi (O, Stay with me...), Sonet (Sonnet), to be published in Bukarester Salon, in Vienna. • January, 1. In Convorbiri literare, Glossa (Glossa), Sonet -Venetia (Sonnet - Venice), and Odă în metru antic (Ode in ancient meter), three of the original poems of the volume – are published. • January. Titu Maiorescu - who had been permanently informed on the evolution of Eminescu's health – visits the poet at Döbling, bringing him the newly-issued volume of poems. • January, 8. Gheorghe Eminovici, the poet's father, dies at Ipotesti. He'll be buried near Raluca Eminovici, in the vicinity of the family's small church. The poet's condition is sensibly improving. In the letters sent to his friends in the country, Eminescu requires, more often than not, to return home; also, he is anxious as to the expenses caused by his illness. [next]
